The Rolls Royce Phantom

Have you ever seen the Rolls Royce Phantom, not in a picture or on TV but in person?  It is a vehicle that impresses beyond description.  It is the epitome of automotive luxury.  There is no other vehicle on the road that can even be said to be in the same category as the Phantom.   For one, a single Rolls Royce Phantom takes two months to build and is assembled almost completely by hand, there are very few cars out their that can boast such a meticulous and painstaking construction process.  In addition to the hand crafted aspect of this vehicle and the level of comfort and luxury it imparts it is also a high performance automobile outfitted with a 454 hp 12 cylinder engine that can go 0-60 in under 6 seconds.

It takes 60 pairs of hands to design this work of art and every single Phantom made is constructed at the home of Rolls Royce in Goodwood England.  Starting with the construction of the frame the attention to detail is staggering as 5 surface technicians take up to 5 hours sanding and finishing the surface of the vehicle to perfection.   Then comes the signature Rolls Royce pinstripe, or coach line, that is applied by hand with a special squirrel hair brush.  After that the interior design begins.   The entire interior of the vehicle is comprised of hand selected and hand stitched leather, each piece of upholstery is selected by a seamstress and any pieces displaying any manner of imperfection are discarded.   Then the interior is sewn together and signed by the master seamstress with the signature Rolls Royce logo.   Then the wood-grain paneling is build, sanded and finished first by hand and then polished to perfection by man-operated machines.  The interior paneling is glossed to a mirror-like shine and boasts a sheen that is incomparable.

The actual assembly of the engine and marriage of the chassis to the frame is also done in Goodwood and is, of course, done by hand.   Each bolt and part is tested and checked for optimum performance and sustainability.  Once the vehicle is assembled it is put in a high-pressure washer designed to simulate monsoon water and winds and is thoroughly checked for leaks and imperfections.  Finally the engine and actual performance of the vehicle is tested in a simulator designed to emulate various driving conditions.  Then, and only then, after two months of intense craftsmanship the newly created Rolls Royce Phantom is released onto the road, a thing of great beauty built by the hands of dozens of dedicated technicians and professionals.
