Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, are a set of goals set forth by the United Nations in an effort to guide the governments of the world along a path to sustainable development and a better quality of life The SDGs are part of a bigger agenda called “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The United Nations will be meeting Today Sept 24th in part to paint the broader strokes of this 15-year endeavor.
These discussions are important for everyone, so important that Pope Francis has even come to the big apple to put pressure of some of these word leaders in an effort to see some of the more altruistic teachings of the Catholic church be included in these talks. Business leaders as well are best served by paying very close attention to what the SDGs are looking to achieve.
Some of the anticipated topics include ending poverty, fighting inequalities and reversing climate change. Each national government sets its own benchmarks but ultimately they will all ideally follow a similar path with a similar end goal in the cross hairs. These talks are designed to offer the global population a higher quality of life by making sure people are treated equally and fairly and that there are universal social standards that we are all held too. Obviously this typically entails sweeping policy changes in both national and international businesses at all levels.
The discussions by the United Nations during the SDG talks will shape our world for the next 15 years. These talks are important, quite possibly the most important discussions we will see this decade. The goals are set to improve our quality of life and every individual and organization has a part to play.
