One of the great privileges of growing up in the Northeastern United States is experiencing the changing of the seasons.  Autumn in New York is beautiful.  The leaves change color; the weather gets a little cooler and its pumpkin season!  If your looking for something different to do this Fall read on…

 

1)   Check out the vineyards; Spring is not the only time to head out east or upstate to do some wine tasting.  In fact the fall can be an even better time to head out to the vineyards.   Not only can you experience all the wineries on the North Fork or up in Hudson valley, but now its harvest season, mix up your wine tasting with a little apple picking or head over to a place like Briermere Farms and get a fresh homemade blueberry pie.

  

2)   If you’ve done the North fork to death then try heading up state to the Hudson Valley wine trail, the wineries up there have a bit more of a “homey” feel, less commercialized, and the trip up and back will be gorgeous if you time it right wit the foliage.

 

3)    Spook yourself; Long Island and NYC are home to some of the most horrifying haunted houses in the country.   Whether your looking to have a truly frightening experience or just a little fun with the kids you can take your pick.  Want the ultimate haunted house experience check out Blackout in NYC.  Looking for a more authentic or traditional scare, Long Island has several famously haunted attractions, go visit The Amityville Horror house, or Katie’s in Smithtown, you will not be disappointed.

 

4)   Experience the season; If you want to really enjoy what is at the heart of Autumn in the northeast go and visit one of the many arboretums on Long Island.  Some of the best are Old Westbury Garden, The Oakdale Arboretum and the cutting fields in Oyster bay.

 

5)    Participate in the celebrations; Due to the popularity of this season in this region there are tons of parades, festivals and celebrations that take place this time of year.  Check out Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, or The Rise of The Jack-o-lanterns at Old Westbury Gardens.  Both of these events are ones that should not be missed.

The Long Island Hospitality Ball

The Long Island Hospitality Ball is a Gala organized by Keith Hart, a cancer survivor and hospitality mainstay, and Daria Carioscia to raise money for The American Cancer Society.  This event is a true show of humanitarianism as hundreds of venues across long island donate their time and services to help the fight against cancer.  In years past donations have raised over $400,000 to help combat this awful disease.  This is an unbelievable achievement for an amazing organization and the most worthy of causes.

This year we honored several special guests, icons in the service and hospitality industry.  These individuals are real heroes in Americas fight against cancer.  Victor and Antony Scotto, professionally known as the "Scotto Brothers", owners of such fine establishments as Chateau Briand and Fox Hollow.  Reynold Leone, owner of Zacharies nightclub in East Meadow, and E.Loyd Sobel CEO of Empire Merchants were all honored for their selfless contributions to society and various charities.  Thank you gentlemen for the incredible example you set.

Thank you also to several other individuals for their sponsorship and generous donations.  George Voutsinas, owner of Chateau La Mer and the ultimate warm weather venue Pop's Seafood Shack in Island Park, Eddie Maiorino owner of Il Classico restaurant and caterers in Massapequa, , Jim Powers owner of All Star Limousine Worldwide based out of Lindenhurst and Dante A. Ciampaglia the architect responsible for designing many of long islands popular halls and restaurants.

This is the party of the year.  Long island's social elite kicked off the summer at the stunning Crest Hollow Country Club with the third annual Long Island Hospitality Ball. It was an evening of great food great drink, laughter and friends as over 2000 people came out to support the fight against cancer.  All manner of individuals, primarily representing the hospitality and service industry, rubbed shoulders from bartenders and coat-checks to the owners and managers of some of long island's premier establishments.  These are the people that breath life into long island's social scene, and this beautiful place would not be what it is if not for them.

You would have been hard pressed to find a sad face in this crowd.  A plethora of libations, hors d’oeuvres, appetizers and cocktails from some of the finest restaurants in the area were thoroughly enjoyed by all, and when the eating and drinking was done the entertainment began.  Fireworks, live music, magicians and DJ's entertained the decked out crowd all night and when it was time for crest hollow to close its doors those with the where withal took the party to Four in Melville. Once there the celebrants graced the dance floor of this amazing nightclub and wound down the night.

Elegance, class and beauty were the words of the evening.  Nowhere else can you find such gorgeous grounds, incredible food and wonderful people.  Truly a night to be remembered and I am already looking forward to next years Long Island Hospitality Ball.

Somehow, transportation for my son's wedding got overlooked.  I called Debbie two days before the wedding and she could not have been more helpful or accommodating.  She promised me the moon and she still exceeded our expectations.  The driver, Larry, was wonderful to my son and daughter-in-law. He carried all kinds of things for them on an extremely warm day and was patient from beginning to end. I could not recommend All Star Limo more highly!

I have been a customer for the past few years.  I have mainly used your service for personal use, to and from the airport.  I felt compelled to write this email to let you know how pleased I am with your service.  On February 13, 2014, there was a terrible snow storm here on Long Island.  Our family was scheduled to take an international flight leaving from JFK. Airport  Since we live in East Islip, NY this was about an hour ride.  When the terrible weather ensued, we were very worried about our flight.  Would we get there on time? Would our flight be canceled?  It was quite stressful.  Your company was our saving grace.  While other friends using similar companies were being told there would be no driver coming or were a no-show, our driver was at our home an hour earlier than scheduled. This took an enormous amount of pressure off of us and set the tone for a fantastic vacation.  We arrived at the airport safely and ahead of schedule.  We cannot thank you enough and look forward to using your service again in the future.

Prom Time

Prom Time!

It’s once again the time of year when the weather gets warmer the beaches and vineyards are opening and the flowers are blooming.  It is also prom time.  Prom can be the one of the most momentous events of a lifetime and for many teens it marks their first major milestone.  As incredible as it is, it can also be a very stressful time.  There are dresses to buy and tuxedoes to rent, coordinating with friends and finding a date are just a few of the possible trials faced by the young prom goer.  Of course there is also the transportation. Who’s going to go with whom in what type of limo and where are we going before after and during, it can see very daunting when faced with all these decisions. All Star Limousines wants you to know that we understand and we are here to help.

Here are five tips for kids and parents to keep in mind when selecting a company and a vehicle for their prom:

 

1)     Always go and visit the limousine company, make sure the vehicle you are interested in will be on site and available for you to view.  If you find yourself in a situation where that car is not there when they said it would be or the person on the phone is trying to arrange a meeting spot for you to see the vehicle (probably because they don’t have an actual location) think twice before committing to that company.

 

2)    Make sure you have an accurate head count and a small monetary commitment from all the people that will be in your limo on prom night.  Prom only happens on one of a few days out of the year (due to the need for most schools to have prom before graduation and the limited availability of catering halls) so a last minute vehicle switch due to a member of your group dropping out or going with someone else may be difficult to accommodate and will leave the remaining individuals in your party responsible for a larger portion of the bill.

 

3)    Ask questions.  There is no such thing as a dumb question.  Some things you may want to ask the sales person from the limo company are; is the price your giving me inclusive of all fees (it’s ok to ask if that price includes tip)?  Do you own all your limousines (many companies advertise vehicles they don’t even have)?  Are your drivers safe and reliable (are they properly certified)?  Is the vehicle you are showing me the exact car that we will be receiving on our day? Do you allow drinking or alcohol in the vehicle (obviously guys your underage and can’t drink so this is a big no) if the answer to any of these questions is not what you imagine it should be then that is an immediate red flag. 

 

4)    Sign a contract.  It is very important that you are properly contracted for the agreed upon price and the agreed upon vehicle.  Also along those same lines make sure the company asks for a credit card. Any company that does not require you to sign a contract or does not request you leave a credit card on file is not engaging in proper business practices.  Many times these are small fly by night companies that are trying to avoid taxes or proper insurance fees.  You run a good chance, when dealing with this type of operation, of them taking your money and then just not showing up the day of.

 

5)    Have a solid logistics plan.  Know where you’re going and at what time.  Do not schedule things too close, as it will take longer for a vehicle such as a party bus to get from point A to point B then it would in a regular car.  Also do not try to pick up all 20 people in your limo from their individual houses try to limit your pickups and drop offs to three and three (suggest common meeting places that are centrally located so no one is traveling too far on their own), this is really so that your time is maximized in the limousine.  It makes no sense to spend half the night picking up people and then dropping them off.

With so many other concerns deciding what to do after the magical night can be one of the most difficult tasks when planning your prom.  She wants to go out dancing, he wants to go to the beach; they just want to hit a diner late night in their red carpet cloths.  Whose mom wants them home before 1am whose parents are insisting that they get picked up and dropped off at the doorstep, this ones dad says she is absolutely forbidden to go to that club.  It can be truly maddening if you are the one responsible for making the arrangements for your special night.  In the interest of simplifying the situation we have compiled a list of the five hottest after prom spots in NYC…

What is the difference between a limousine company and an executive car service?  Well there are many and in truth it is very hard to be both but if you can do one well it is possible to attempt to take on the other but this is no easy task.   First of all let us examine the differences between the two services; an executive car service caters primarily to corporations and executives, business travelers going to and from meetings or to the airports, a limousine company provides transportation for celebratory events like weddings, birthdays, nights out on the town and things of that nature.

 

An executive car service will carry primarily town cars or sedan type vehicles and or SUV’s.  Most executives do not want a flashy limousine or party bus.  The bulk of the transfers will be to and from major HUBs, airports corporate offices and the occasional restaurant or meeting venue.  There is a huge opportunity for repeat business here as long as the service is good and consistent.  Often you will be transferring the same people and if the company is good you will get used to their particular needs and wants.  Town cars or un-stretched vehicles are slightly easier to run then limousines or exotic stretches because these vehicles only require normal preventative and routine maintenance.  You can lease a large fleet and turn them over quickly to guarantee newer, clean vehicles, this helps reduce mechanical overhead and also presents a better image.  The licensing to operate a sedan is less complex that that required to drive a large stretch or a party bus. 

 

On the other hand the corporate game can be rough.  The service must be consistent and it can be difficult to be on time every time.  Some times all these corporations need is just one occurrence where the executive car service drops the ball and that gives them a reason to look elsewhere.  Most people do not understand the nature of a true executive car service and they will treat you similar to a cab company, they will try to book transfers at the last possible minute and not respect carefully dispatched trips making changes on the fly or last minute.   Most executives have admins or assistants that handle the bookings and other things and adding that extra person into the process increases the chances of miscommunication and human error.  Corporate transportation is not easy.

 

Now a limousine company will be dealing with individuals who are celebrating important moments in their lives, events such as weddings, proms and birthdays will be the norm.  Typically these events involve large groups of people and that is where the stretch limousine comes in.  Stretches range from 6 passenger to 24 passenger SUV’s and then you get into party buses that range from 24-55 passengers.  These large vehicles can be difficult to drive and sometimes will have more problems then a vehicle that is built on a line (as opposed to something that is custom made or cut and stretched).   Electrical issues, more maintenance and a greater strain on the engine and transmission can prove taxing on any vehicle not  to mention the wear and tear experienced when transporting large groups of people who are drinking and celebrating and not exactly being mindful of what they are doing to the vehicle.

 

Now while the possibility of repeat business still exists it is very slim comparatively, but people participating or contracting for these events want everything to be inexcusably perfect.  Sometimes there requests and wants are just not realistic and these people are the ones that are impossible to please no matter what.

 

Overall the limousine and executive car service industry is not an easy one.  A company has to be well equipped, experienced and dedicated to providing excellent service every time.   Both sides of the business have their caveats and problems as well as their benefits and upsides.  When done right it can be a truly rewarding industry, people are appreciative and happy and at the same time it can be horrific if things don’t go right 100% of the time.  That is why All Star Limousine and All Star Limousine Worldwide are dedicated to providing flawless car service no matter the event or occasion.  We are on time every time and we never say no!
