It’s Prom Time Again!

The weathers getting warmer, the snows finally melting, businesses are picking up and just around the corner its prom time again!  In the limousine industry we see a large increase in work and transfers along with the warm weather, this is due to three events; weddings, vineyards and proms.  Although first and foremost All Star Limousine is an executive car service we still do lots and lots of weddings and when the season comes around we take care of the graduates too.  Limousines for prom are not like any other event however as a certain amount of care and attention go into these transfers.

A quick word to the parents; get involved.  I cannot stress how important it is to involve an adult or guardian when it comes to booking transportation for your prom.  Limousines can be expensive, especially if you need a larger vehicle and you need it for a long time, which is most often the case with proms.  A parent needs to explain the stipulations and guidelines to their children and their friends this way the severity and seriousness of these things is reinforced by a recognized authority figure.  A parent should also be involved so there is someone responsible dealing with the money.  Its not that your children aren’t capable its just that they made not be used to dealing with an arrangement such as this where large sums of money and contracts are involved.

Our priority is the safety of your children and second to that is making sure they have a good time.  We cannot condone any kind of substance abuse during these trips, it is much more of a liability for All Star Limousine then it is to the kids involved.  Our name and reputation, along with our insurance and the driver’s license, are all at risk in regards to making any kind of exception to the aforementioned rules. 

Ultimately this is a great time of year, the snow is melting, people are celebrating momentous events and businesses are making money.  Prom for many in their young lives is a huge occasion and at All Star we completely understand.  We guarantee the kids will have an incredible time and they will be safe in our vehicles and with our chauffeurs.

The 2014 Winter Olympics

The 2014 Winter Olympic games (XXII Olympic Winter Games) are being held in Sochi Russia this year.  Currently they are underway and, as all Olympic Games usually are, they have been intense, full of surprises, disappointments and of course triumphs.  Beginning with questionable living conditions in the Russian tundra and continuing with amazing feats and stunning upsets the Olympic games never fail to disappoint.

Currently the United States is tied for first place in regard to over all medals won, Russia and the Netherlands share the top spot with 17 medals each.  Germany so far has accumulated the most Golds in the XXII Olympic Winter Games.   These games began with Gold medals being won by the Americans in both Men’s and Women’s Snowboarding Slope Style event, a new event for this year’s Olympic Games.  Favorite Sean White dropping out of the event, claiming it was too dangerous.  White attempted to preserve himself for his snowboarding half pipe event for which he was also the favorite, but was upset by the next generation of snowboarders.

Evegeni Plushenko the Russian rock star figure skater has been a dominant force in the figure skating world for nearly a decade.  After securing Gold in the team event he disappointed his adoring fans with his withdrawal from the men’s singles competition.  A wise move considering his many surgeries.  His Claim “I am not a Robot.” May sound silly or obvious but the underlying meaning is profound.  Some of these athletes are pushed and pushed by the expectations of their fans and their countries and some are pushed beyond their limits to the determent of their emotional and physical selves.  I for one agree with Evgeni’s decision to withdraw, a prudent and mature decision.

The Olympic Game’s are always incredible, the joining of nations, the celebration of the best athletes in the world and of course intense spectacular competition.  These games have been no different and I am sure as they wind to a close we will continued to be amazed and surprised by the worlds most incredible and impressive individuals.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an American and Canadian holiday originating at the time of the protestant reformation and the emigration of the European Pilgrims to America.  Traditionally thanksgiving was a time of prayer and appreciation, most specifically in regards to the end of the harvest season and bountiful crops.   The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims in Plymouth Massachusetts in 1621 it was a feast between the local Native American tribes and the Pilgrims celebrating a successful harvest.

Today Thanksgiving is a time for celebration and a time to remember to be grateful and give thanks.  We are fortunate to have what we have in this country and when we are all around that Thanksgiving table remember to appreciate the food and the fellowship.  All Star Limousine has much to be thankful for this holiday season, we are prosperous and profitable, and we have amazing employees and an incredible clientele.  Jim and Janine Powers the CEO and CFO of All Star Limousine treat their people with the utmost respect and kindness, we could not ask for better employers.   In a time of doubt and hardship for some however All Star remains a bright constant, a foundation and a reliable institution.  We give thanks for our employers our employees our co-workers and especially our clients because without you their would be no us.

The Best of Long Island

What does it mean to be the best of Long Island?  For 9 years the Long Island Press has been awarding business across Long Island with the prestigious title “The Best of Long Island”.  The nominees and winners are chosen by you the people, those who use the services and those that live on Long Island are the ones who decide whose the best in their relative field or industry.

This is far more then just some prestigious title to be won.  The best of long island was not established so that one company can rub the honors in the face of their competitors.  Yes the award and the plaque looks great in the office.  Yes it is a very nice proverbial pat on the back.  More then all of that however the real value of these awards is for the consumers.   The winners of Long Island’s Best are showcased throughout the year and the honor continues to follow that company for as long as they are in business.  This is relevant because when searching for a reputable company or service Long Islands best becomes an invaluable tool.  Anyone can go to the BoLI website or The Long Island Press website and look for this years, or previous years, winners.

Just like Yelp or any other review based directory The Best of Long Island is designed to benefit potential consumers when they are investigating the possibility of using a new company.  What is nice about BoLI is that it is 100% transparent.  In other words the winners are chosen very simply and with no bias.  People nominate, and then people vote.  The more nominations and the more votes you get the better your chances are of winning, simple.  So this year be sure to take your selections for Best of Long Island seriously because it is done for the people by the people and your opinions and voices are valuable and deserve to be heard.

Toys for Tots

In 1995 the Secretary of Defense approve Toys for Tots as an official activity of the U.S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps reserve.  The foundation was created to help organize the Marines mission to collect and donate toys for children.  The organization satisfies the needs of the United States Marine Corps in so far as organizing the endeavors and supplement the collections already engaged in by the Marine Corps.  It also allows the corporation to enter into contracts with other organizations and to allow charitable deductions for businesses kind enough to donate time, money or services.

Toys for Tots is a truly noble cause and one that sees much emphasis during the holiday season.  Relatively new by charity standards Toys for Tots has seen many prestigious awards and much recognition over the years, to date the organization has donated over 469 million toys to over 216 million less fortunate children.  It is very simple to find a local chapter or to  have a box placed in your place of business.  All Star Limousine has been donating for several years and Toys for Tots is one of our favorite charities.

So this year when you’re out shopping for gifts to place under the tree don’t forget about those less fortunate.  Toys for Tots is a wonderful charity, they receive awards consistently for their philanthropy and dedication.  All Star Limousine is privileged to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause.
