The lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center is a global acknowledge of the holiday season.   Not just recognized in New York, but the world over, the ceremonial lighting of the tree has been a Christmas tradition since 1933.  Originally started in 1931 when depression error workers decorated a 20-foot balsam fir tree with strings of cranberries and tin cans during the construction of the legendary Rockefeller Center it was not made an official tradition until 1933.  Today the tree is trimmed with 45,000 multicolored LED lights and topped by the 550-pound Swarovski Star, it is one of the most expensive and elaborate holiday decorations in the world.

Typically a Norway spruce measuring between 70-100 feet tall the trees are scouted and then craned into NYC late November and they remain up until early January.  This year the tree lighting will take place on December 2^nd and the tree will remain up until January 6^th.  The only thing to rival the process of bringing the tree in is the ceremony and festivities surrounding the actual lighting of the magnificent spruce.  Televised and broadcasted nationwide, the entire U.S.  can witness the lighting of the tree accompanied by stage shows and musical performances executed by some of the entertainment industries finest.  It is truly a sight to behold.

All Star Limousine and the United Nations

Traffic in New York City is always crazy.  Drivers are aggressive, the roads are congested and everyone is in a rush.  These variables make it tough to operate an executive car service but a properly equipped one with the right vehicles the right technology and the right staff can make it happen, now factor in a scenario where you have something like the United Nations in town and it’s a whole different ballgame.

For the next two weeks most roads will be inaccessible to cars and trucks and even to those on bicycles.  The roads and routes that become blocked or shut down vary daily based on the UN and its delegates.  The security for this NYC United Nations Assembly is air tight as well it should be, but this means serious gridlock for most of midtown Manhattan.  For the most part if you are looking to get around in NYC for the next couple of weeks either take the subway or use an executive car service like All Star Limousine.  A good executive car service will be fully aware of the all the road closures and alternate routes that are put into place during the UN’s General Assemblies.

The Fourth of July
