The Best New York Executive Car Service

The Best New York Executive Car Service

Who is the best New York Executive Car Service?  This is not going to be a testament to how great All Star Limousine is or an effort at self-glorification, we want to present, and in some cases re-iterate, what it means to be a true executive car service.   First of all we want to again touch upon and mention the difference between a black car service and an executive car service, as the differences are important and distinct.  Then we would like to further explain the details of properly running and operating a New York based executive car service.

The differences between a black car service and an executive car service are glaring.   One of the most important and obvious differences is that a black car service is more of a call center or a brokerage as opposed to an actual company.  A black car service is merely a dispatch center where they receive calls and then call other independently owned cars operated by individuals who do not work for that company. And then let them bid on who will do the proposed job for the cheapest, this is how the black car service, Uber, operates.  If you think about that it’s frightening.   An executive car service owns all the vehicles that they dispatch and all of their drivers are insured, screened and trained by that company.

To be a true executive car service and be operating in a metropolis like New York you must be properly equipped, having the right staff, the right equipment and the right technology.  To undertake the endeavor of being a New York executive car service with anything less then optimal equipment and staffing is a recipe for disaster.  The vehicles must be new, clean and undergo preventative maintenance, the drivers must be screened checked and undergo continual education, the office staff and dispatch department need to be using only the latest and most sophisticated reservation and dispatch technology.  All of these things must be implemented they must then be perfected through time, money and constant refinement, then, and only then, can you be called the best.

Building A Successful Business

Building a Successful Business

Starting a company and building or growing a company entails many things, but it all starts and ends with the person in charge, the CEO, the owner, the manager.  If this individual is not on top of his game 100 percent of the time then the chances for success diminish rapidly.  What I mean by “on top of their game” is that this person is ultimately the driving force behind everything, if at any point they are not directly involved in certain aspects of the daily business dealings, or they are not focusing on what is really important, trouble and hard times are sure to follow.  Again there are many things that impact the success of any business and these things vary from business to business and industry to industry but there are several universal criteria for a successful business venture.

Know what you’re getting into.  Know the industry you are operating within.  Gain experience, do research and consult with experts.  There is rarely a company that becomes successful where the owner or operator has no experience in the relevant field.  You cannot just one day wake up and say, “I’m going to start my own executive car service” and have no experience in the executive car service or limousine service industry.  Experience or at least a fluid working knowledge of how an industry works is vital for success.

Be as hands on as possible but know your limits, involve yourself in the tasks or endeavors that require your attention but do not micromanage.  Part of any great success is the ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses in others.  Place the right people in the important positions, those that are self-motivated or natural leaders, individuals that have a certain degree of emotional intelligence or charisma so that their subordinates will be happy to follow or want to please.  Do not try to do it all yourself, your not superman and what will happen is important things will start to suffer.

Be properly funded.  It is a true rarity when someone makes something from nothing (and even those that say they do are usually embellishing or leaving something out).  It takes money to make money, that’s reality.  Make sure that before engaging in any endeavor that you have enough capital to float you thru at least 6 months worth of expenses. This is necessary for many reasons but chief amongst them is that no one can predict the unforeseen variables like acts of god or just plain old bad luck.

Be positive.  Be positive and act as if.  Keep a good energy around you; you don’t want to be that boss or that owner that is all about the doom and gloom (and I’m sure if you give it a bit of thought you will not recall having met many business owners who were successful by constantly being negative).  That’s not to say be unrealistic or have your head in the clouds, nor is it an excuse to avoid addressing various negativisms, but it is important to make a conscious effort to focus on the positive.

These are just some friendly tips and hopefully some helpful advice.  This is by no means a comprehensive guide to success, I would never presume to be an expert on such.  Neither is this meant as a universal game plan designed to span all industries and business.  Really I am attempting to identify potential problems that plague many new business owners, as well as help current CEO’s recognize ongoing issues that they themselves may have some difficulty seeing.  Sometimes it’s a lot easier to speculate from the exterior then to accurately identify caveats from within.

Professionalism

Professionalism (The Line)

What exactly is the consummate professional?  Where is the line for social interactions in the workplace?  We all know that there are certain “taboo” subjects that are not to be discussed in a professional setting or in polite company but adhering to a strict set of obligatory rules and procedures may not be the best course of action.  You don’t want to be that guy (or girl) who comes into work and just starts spewing all their personal issues and opinions all over the place.  You also don’t want to go into the work place and be a robot.  So where is the line?

First of all it makes sense to illustrate a few of the obvious “don’ts” before we proceed.   It is not polite to discuss your sex life, political opinions, religious views or your salary at work.  I have heard people argue the point that then no one will ever get to know the real you, or how can you relate to your co-workers if they don’t know anything about you?   First of all you are at work to work, not to make friends, not to socialize, not to enlighten people or convert them to your way of thinking.  Second of all it is absolutely possible to get to know someone with-out divulging your personal points of view and your opinions, in fact your belief system should only encompass a very small part of who you actually are (if that is not the case with you read a book or get a hobby).

There are other topics that fall into a grey area, things like personal interests, problems, opinions about other co-workers, the job itself and issues of a more sensitive nature.  I do not believe that the workplace is the place where you come to vent or to air out your Audrey but for some people it is.  For some it represents their only social outlet.  Sometimes things are subjective; sometimes we make close friends on the job.  There is nothing wrong with that but it is important to know where the line is, maintain your professionalism and use your head.  It may be one thing to tell Joe your good buddy that things aren’t going great with the missus at home its another to start talking about it with your boss Mr. Smith.

Ultimately the truth is you don’t need to be best friends with everyone you work with in order to do your job well and the work place is not happy hour.   After all no one has ever gotten a raise for telling the funniest joke or being the best dancer.  Use your head, exercise emotional intelligence and know where that line is, it may be different for everyone but it is important not to cross it.  These rules and guidelines are paramount to maintaining the appearance of professionalism.
