Staying Humble

Humility and respect are the cornerstones of civilized society we are all best served by being decent to one another and understanding our own personal limitations.  No matter the success we achieve, the things we accomplish or the things that we build, it is important to stay humble.  No one, no matter how much money they have how many degrees they have earned or what their experiences have been, knows everything there is to know about everything and most people don’t know everything there is to know about anything.  Staying humble allows us to grow as individuals and as a society, it keeps us curious and careful, it keeps us always trying to be better.

Arrogance and ego are wrecking balls, we all must remain grounded firmly in reality, understanding that most of us really know very little, and that our milestone achievements are only the briefest of moments in the history of our world.   As soon as you think you know everything you become ignorant to all the new information and perspectives that are constantly being introduced and evolving everyday.  The smartest and best of us listen to everything they hear from claimed authorities.  Then those individuals have the ability to process all of that information and make a good decision.

The other issue with arrogance and ignorance is that once you begin to act like you are better then someone else that other person will (usually) stop interacting with you.  For many this may seem like a small loss as you obviously feel like you are better then this individual so the absence of their company is not felt.  But people are surprising and sometimes the lowest amongst us can make the greatest change or achieve the most powerful results.  People change, none of us know what the future holds, and tomorrow the rich can be poor and the poor can be rich.

Ego and pride will always hurt us, they are deceptive attributes that serve solely to erode and segregate.  Stay humble; understanding the reality of not knowing will only help you to expand your world and your personal knowledge.  It will help you and those around you to be better people.  The moment you think you know everything is the moment you stop learning.
