There are several really good reasons that there exists a season for Long Island weddings.  The cold weather during the wintertime months is usually a big deterrent for those soon to be wed.  This is why we see a big increase in weddings in the spring summer and fall.  Below we will identify the three biggest reasons not to get married during the winter.

1-    The snow.  This is the obvious one.  The only thing worse then rain on your wedding day is snow.  Forget taking pictures outside in most locations and make sure you hike those dresses up or they will get ruined. 

2-    Travel.  Traveling for you, your bridal party, and your guests becomes very challenging.  Even if you avoid a snowstorm the roads can still be icy and when time is of the essence the last thing you want to deal with is inclement weather or less then ideal travel conditions.  For you’re out of town guests storms can cause serious problems if flights get delayed re-routed or all together cancelled, it is next to impossible to re-schedule your wedding.

 3-    Your vendors.   Most wedding vendors on long island are used to operating in warm weather.  During the colder months their services may not be what they should be.   Transportation companies, photography, hair stylists, flowers and more are all affected by the colder weather.  Make sure what ever company you contract for your wintertime wedding is prepared to handle the snow and ice.

Traditionally wedding season is spring through fall fear of colder weather and snow usually deters brides and grooms from getting married during the winter months.  Recently however we have seen an increase in these wintertime weddings.  The snowy season offers several benefits for those soon to be wed.  The fear of blizzards and inclement weather affords the savvy bride or groom several benefits should they be brave enough to have an off peak wedding.  Below are three reasons to entertain the idea of a winter wedding.

1)   The price.  The cost of having an off peak wedding is significantly cheaper then having a wedding in the middle of the season.  Catering halls, photographers and transportation companies all offer significant discount to brides and grooms if they are looking to get married in the winter months. This obviously has to do with supply and demand; far fewer people book their weddings in December and January as opposed to May and June. 

2)   The photography.  The fear of snowfall can be a nightmare for the soon to be wed.  However the resourceful photographer can turn that negative into a real positive.  Some of the most incredible bridal shots are those taking place in the snow.  There’s just something about that white flowing dress in a field of ice and snow that resonates with purity and beauty.

3)   Availability.  Chances are that you will be able to get any company that you want and any catering all that you may be interested in by having an off peak wedding.  The availability of spaces and vendors increases significantly when planning your wedding during the off peak season.
