What is the difference between a limousine company and an executive car service?  Well there are many and in truth it is very hard to be both but if you can do one well it is possible to attempt to take on the other but this is no easy task.   First of all let us examine the differences between the two services; an executive car service caters primarily to corporations and executives, business travelers going to and from meetings or to the airports, a limousine company provides transportation for celebratory events like weddings, birthdays, nights out on the town and things of that nature.

 

An executive car service will carry primarily town cars or sedan type vehicles and or SUV’s.  Most executives do not want a flashy limousine or party bus.  The bulk of the transfers will be to and from major HUBs, airports corporate offices and the occasional restaurant or meeting venue.  There is a huge opportunity for repeat business here as long as the service is good and consistent.  Often you will be transferring the same people and if the company is good you will get used to their particular needs and wants.  Town cars or un-stretched vehicles are slightly easier to run then limousines or exotic stretches because these vehicles only require normal preventative and routine maintenance.  You can lease a large fleet and turn them over quickly to guarantee newer, clean vehicles, this helps reduce mechanical overhead and also presents a better image.  The licensing to operate a sedan is less complex that that required to drive a large stretch or a party bus. 

 

On the other hand the corporate game can be rough.  The service must be consistent and it can be difficult to be on time every time.  Some times all these corporations need is just one occurrence where the executive car service drops the ball and that gives them a reason to look elsewhere.  Most people do not understand the nature of a true executive car service and they will treat you similar to a cab company, they will try to book transfers at the last possible minute and not respect carefully dispatched trips making changes on the fly or last minute.   Most executives have admins or assistants that handle the bookings and other things and adding that extra person into the process increases the chances of miscommunication and human error.  Corporate transportation is not easy.

 

Now a limousine company will be dealing with individuals who are celebrating important moments in their lives, events such as weddings, proms and birthdays will be the norm.  Typically these events involve large groups of people and that is where the stretch limousine comes in.  Stretches range from 6 passenger to 24 passenger SUV’s and then you get into party buses that range from 24-55 passengers.  These large vehicles can be difficult to drive and sometimes will have more problems then a vehicle that is built on a line (as opposed to something that is custom made or cut and stretched).   Electrical issues, more maintenance and a greater strain on the engine and transmission can prove taxing on any vehicle not  to mention the wear and tear experienced when transporting large groups of people who are drinking and celebrating and not exactly being mindful of what they are doing to the vehicle.

 

Now while the possibility of repeat business still exists it is very slim comparatively, but people participating or contracting for these events want everything to be inexcusably perfect.  Sometimes there requests and wants are just not realistic and these people are the ones that are impossible to please no matter what.

Advanced Problem Solving (turning a negative into a positive)


 

 

Sometimes no matter how good a company is or no matter how hard they try things go wrong.  The law of averages plays a roll because if you are a good company you are doing lots of business and eventually somewhere something will go wrong.  In the service industry this is especially true and this is a pit fall to beware, because in the service industry people are expecting something and if that something is not delivered exactly how they need it they will not be happy.  One of the greatest strengths of any manager, business owner or sales person is turning a negative into a positive, turning that frown upside down.

 

When doing business in any capacity it is important to at least try to do the right thing.  Operate according to the laws and regulations set forth by your industry and it usually doesn’t hurt to apply your own moral code during business interactions.  Again this holds especially true in the service industry.  Now lets face it ,those of you currently involved in the service world know that you cant possibly please everyone and sometimes certain people look for a problem.  Situations especially like the latter seem impossible but this is not true, it is a matter of perception and understanding. 

 

First when facing a dissatisfied customer it is important to begin to diffuse the situation immediately, do not antagonize do not be contentious try to assuage.  Identify the problem, identify the cause of the problem, solve it and then make it right with the customer.  Do this swiftly and professionally and the potential exists to gain a customer for life, this is turning a negative into a positive.  The possibility exists because if the problem is properly solved and you can make that unsatisfied customer happy then that person has seen how you operate at your worst and will realize that it is not that bad.  The next time they go to use your company they will expect the usual good service but in the back of their minds they will know that if something should go wrong that they have already seen the worst and it wasn’t that bad.

Unemployment

This recession has been hard on us all but we seem to be turning the corner.   The economy added 203,00 Jobs in November and the unemployment rate continued to drop from 7.3 percent to a recession low of 7 percent (still .5 percent above the federal threshold).   Some say that this figure only reflects those that have stopped looking for jobs and that we are not out of the woods yet.  Others say they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.   All Star Limousine is on the rise, we are growing and expanding and we have opportunities for all types of individuals with all manner of skill sets.

 

7% may seem a long way from a 4.7 percent unemployment rate seen in November of 2007, the month right before the recession officially began, but it is much better then the recession high of over 10 percent.  The pessimistic analysts say that we only see the decline in the unemployment rate because individuals have given up looking for jobs or have stopped collecting unemployment.  They say the labor force participation rate remains at a 36 year low.  Over 10 million Americans are still out of work and approximately 4 million of them have been unemployed for over 6 months.
