What exactly is the definition of networking? It is commonly defined as; “A supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals having a common interest.” Essentially this means socializing with a purpose.  In todays digital age their exists many forms of networking, everything form the tried and trued old fashioned flesh to flesh networking to the digital age method of social networking.  It all has advantages and disadvantages and each has its place in the business world.

 

Good old-fashioned face-to-face networking is still alive and strong today.  There exists millions of networking groups and associations around the world and the primary purpose of which is to generate business.  Here on long island I can personally attest to being a member of over a dozen in the last decade or so, some of which were much more advantageous then others.  The benefits of this type of networking include building real relationships and generating trust, there are few things, even today, that are as reassuring as a good old hand shake and a smile.  One of the negativisms of this type of networking is the time and cost involved, sometimes the business generated though networking groups is frightfully minimal.  Sometimes the type of group you join is industry specific and you may find yourself in a “you scratch my back and ill scratch yours” type situation and your stuck with out a back scratcher.

 

The other commonly recognized form of networking that we see very often today is the networking done through social media, commonly known as social networking.  This type of networking has numerous benefits including low cost and time investment, lighting fast feedback and the ability to reach people all over the world easily and in moments.  The downside to this is that it tends to be very impersonal and it can be hard to generate the trust that face to face networking is so well known for.

 

Regardless of the type, proper and dedicated networking can only help the growth of any good business.  Knowing which type will work best for you and your business, and how to use each one, will help you tremendously on your road to success.

Content management and content marketing can consume a lot of company resources when done properly.   The public’s perception of your brand and image is crucial in maintaining a successful business.   Proper content marketing is at the very least a full time job if not something that needs to be outsourced to a reliable and reputable company.  From social media management, to blogging, to the analysis of past, current and future marketing endeavors a content managers job is vital for a company’s success.

 

If you do not have the resources in-house, then you may find yourself in the position of having to outsource your content management.  This can be a make or break move, outsource to the wrong company and not only are you wasting time and money but your brand is on the line.   A mid-sized organization is usually better off hiring someone one in-house so that his or her efforts and results can be directly and accurately quantified as well as corrected and changed if the current process is not yielding the desired results.

In the service industry, especially in a high-end service industry, you will on occasion have clients that have incredibly high standards and expectations.  The demands of these individuals or groups can seem unrealistic or overwhelming but that comes with the territory, this is what the service industry is all about.  The executive car service and limousine service industries are two types of businesses where servicing very high-end cliental is the norm.  Let me be the first to tell you if you are not equipped to handle individuals with exotic and exacting demands you are in the wrong business.

 

Weather it is on the corporate end or the celebratory end clients of the limousine industry will expect a lot.  Your corporate passenger may expect you to be available for a pick up at a moments notice (at all star we call these “ready now’s”), on the celebratory end you may have a bride who wants to control every moment and detail of each transfer involved on her wedding day.  From our perspective, behind the scenes, we know that some things are just unnecessary or unrealistic, but your client will not want to hear this.  You need to make their vision a reality, you need to accommodate or else risk losing the client.
