Apple’s iphone 5s and the ios7

Apple’s new ios7 is the newest mobile update for Apple’s smartphone and mobile technology.  On the eve of its release it is met with excitement but also with much skepticism.   This is a piece of software designed to be the foundation of the iphone, ipad, ipod touch, and most especially the new iphone 5s, the ios7 marks the biggest software change since 2007.  It promises to make the user experience faster, simpler and more efficient.  What it is endeavoring to do specifically is up the support from a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system, now this sounds great but it will not be fully compatible with all current apps nor any phone that is 3g or less, now enter the iphone 5s.  The iphone 5s is being touted as the fastest phone on the market, the fastest by a long shot.

Detractors say that Apple’s promises of a better product are nothing more then marketing fluff, as those with-out the hardware won’t be able to make use of the available software.  Further more that even those on the technological cutting edge wont see much a difference in the performance of their devices.  Why is this?  Well most apps in their current incarnation don’t need a 64-bit system to operate smoothly and properly, as they already do.  Another potential problem is that apps that are not updated may have issues with the new ios7.  Apple has attempted to mitigate that problem by rolling out a very user-friendly package with the software that has made the lives of app developers very simple, streamlining the update process.

The iphone 5s, scheduled to be released this Friday Sept. 20^th is, by far, the fastest phone on the market.  In addition to a fingerprint scanning touch ID and a picture perfect camera the speed of the iphone 5s is what will make it stand out against the competition.   The results of the SunSpider test, which is the standard speed test companies try to optimize for, show that the new iphone 5s is over 300 ms faster then the iphone 5.  That may not sound like a lot but it really is, they are equating this phone to lighting.

Apple has promised the next evolution of mobile technology with the ios7 software and the new iphone 5s.  Marketing experts are saying that it is not necessary and that it may be too early for such a change but there are many that believe the change is inevitable and Apple is just getting an early jump on it.  The thought is that of course mobile technology will ultimately be updated to that level it is simply a matter of time.  The question is are we ready for it?

Twitter's IPO

Twitter just announced it’s IPO and it is rumored to be very similar to Facebook’s.  Now if any one remembers Zuckerberg’s brainchild doing a nosedive almost the instant the stock went public you might be shaking your head right now.  Twitter, however, is in a much better position then it’s successors and the fact that it is the last of the big four may actually benefit it.

Twitter has several things going for it that Facebook did not.  For one twitter user usage is peaking right now as opposed to Facebook’s IPO being announced during a user decline (ironically due primarily to the newer twitter platform).  This means that the iron is being struck while it is hot.  In addition Twitter offers something completely unique to its platform, something Facebook and even LinkedIn did not (LinkedIn, by the way, was a much bigger success then its likable counter part, investors contribute this to it being easier to understand by those investing in it and by those selling the stock).  Twitters news feed is instant, it is not just a way to keep in contact with friends or to engage in digital networking it is, in effect, the pulse of the world.  That sounds a bit dramatic but allow me to elaborate; twitters news feed feature and trending features show us what is on the minds of people around the world, from entertainment to politics to personal opinions.  Some time ago there was a German theory or phenomenon called Zeitgeist, this in German means lighting spirit, it referred to the collective consciousness of a group of people; it was how trends or fads were explained.  Now twitter has actually implemented a way to monitor exactly that, this is something that no other social media platform is capable of doing.

Not only will this stock sky rocket but it will allow twitter to grow into the collective social media engine that it was (unintentionally?) designed to be.  Several other factors will contribute to the success of this stock one of which is the private filing of twitters IPO under the new JOBS act, this will help avoid unwarranted inflation of the stock before it is announced.  Also Twitter is going public much earlier then Facebook did which will allow Wall Street to see more growth quicker, which in turn will help bring the stock up.

Over all twitter is poised to be a monster.  The time is right, the platform is unique and very special in its own right and it is taking all the right steps to avoid the mistakes made by its predecessors.  I think for anyone who plays the stock game this is as close to a sure thing as anything gets.

Mayweather Vs. Alvarez

Floyd “Money” Mayweather may quite possible be the greatest boxer in the world today.   His victory by decision over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was a lesson in the art of boxing.  The only controversy being the score of one judge who declared the match a draw scoring 114-114 which drew boos from the crowd and the comment “I though it was a joke” from Mayweather himself.  The judge, CJ Ross, has received much admonishment and criticism from both fans and professionals for her nonsensical scoring.  

The fight was a decisive victory, Mayweather seemed to generate momentum as the fight wore on, where as Alvarez began to become frustrated and fatigued by the ninth round fighting open mouthed and throwing senseless jabs.  Mayweather, 13 years the senior of Alvarez, landed 46% of his punches to Alvarez’s 22%, although Alvarez led slightly in power punches this should have been a clear decision for the judges.  Mayweather later retracted his comment about the judges score saying “If they (The Nevada Commission) think she should be out there judging fights, then so be it.”  Both fighters had nothing but praise for one another, Alvarez of Mayweather “He’s a great fighter and an intelligent fighter.” And “He’s got a lot of experience and I honestly couldn’t find him.”  

Mayweather of Alvarez “Canelo is a young, strong champion.”  “I fought a true champion tonight.  The guy can take a loss and bounce back from this.”

Both are incredible fighters one with a long and promising career ahead of him the other at the pinnacle of his game.   Despite controversy from the Nevada Commission (nothing new in this sport) the victor of this fight was clear to all.  We expect to see great things from both of these athletes in the years to come.
