Google Glass

Google glass is Google’s newest product and is essentially a wearable computer with an optical head mounted display.  Now the idea of a voice activated microcomputer with a head mounted display isn’t anything new but Google’s glass is nothing short of innovative genius.  Featuring a much smaller array, which it and of itself is miraculous, Glass will be far more marketable then its clunky predecessors.  It will be lighter and less cumbersome and unlike the headpieces that have come before the user will be able to simultaneously use the computer and interact with the outside world as the optical lenses are clear and look just like normal glasses.  This project is in Beta as of right now but already the laundry list of features is spectacular.

Google Glass is still in development, Project Glass is being run by the Google X division, which has worked on other futuristic technologies at the behest of parent company Google.  The Glass Explorer Program is in Beta testing, or early adopter program, available for potential consumers to test the new Glass product.  So far these testers have discovered a myriad of features and applications that equate to an over all mind blowing experience.

Google Glass offers features such as a bone-conducting sound system, music software that can play it directly into your skull.  Eye and voice command, we have all used or experienced Siri and the voice command technology but Google glass allows you to use optical commands like double blink or wink to snap a picture.  3d imaging, real time tracking and GPS services, and the versatile display allow users to operate the computer in a completely new way.  Uses aside from recreational include a very dynamic learning tool as well as a potential asset for those with certain disabilities (for example blindness)

Overall Google Glass has the potential to monopolize the as yet to be discovered OMHD and AR market.  Cutting edge features and innovative technology are being combined to create something totally new, if properly marketed and built the device has the potential to be globally impacting.
