Layovers In a New York Minute

Layovers In a New York Minute

Previously we have discussed some of the more glaring negativisms or airline travel; today we will discuss another, layovers.  A layover at an airport, or even worse a transfer to another airport, can be ridiculously stressful especially if you are unfamiliar with that particular airport.  Factor in a chaotic environment like that which is found at any of New Yorks three major Airports (or any of the plethora of smaller ones for that matter) and you have the potential for veritable nightmares.  The goods news is that we are here to offer a very simple solution to this problem look into using a New York executive car service. With a true executive car service the stress involved in transferring between airports is completely eliminated and if you have several hours to kill your professional chauffeur will help you make the most of your New York minute.

Now, just to clarify, there is a very distinct difference between an executive car service and a black car service (see Executive car service Vs. Black Car Service) and while the later may seem to fit your needs you may be taking a big risk.  With an executive car service your chauffeur will know the area, the vehicle will be on time, and equipped with all the latest flight tracking and GPS so you can sit back and rest easy knowing that you will make that connecting flight.  So relax, have a drink; check out some of the incredible venues that New York is famous for (for ideas on these check out Great Restaurants in NYC).  Know that you are in capable hands and the gentleman behind the wheel will get you where you need to go and you might just be able to turn that potentially horrific layover into a mini vacation.

Great Restaurants Near LGA

LaGuardia Airport is a major commuter hub located in the NY metropolitan area.   With over a dozen airlines carrying tens of thousands of passengers daily the queens area surrounding LGA can get a little congested.  No one wants to fight gridlock looking for a reputable place to eat only to be tired and hungry and end up with an over cooked steak or chewy calamari.  In the interest of ravenous jet setters everywhere here are three top notch restaurants located within 15 minuets of LaGuardia airport.

5 Napkin Burger in Astoria.  If you haven’t yet experienced the 5 Napkin Burger chain you are seriously missing out.  The restaurant gets its name from the monstrous signature burgers they serve and it is well earned.  Primarily serving American cuisine 5 napkins offers a variety of dishes from around the world including several unique burgers that are exclusive to this Avant-guard burger chain.  Serving an a la carte brunch on Saturday and Sunday 5 Napkin Burger in Astoria-Queens is located less then 4 miles from LGA.

Uncle Jacks Steakhouse.  Uncle Jacks is just about 10 miles from LaGuardia Airport and it’s claim as “The Best Steakhouse in New York” is not too far off.  Now given there are some dynamite steakhouses in the NY metro area Uncle Jacks is certainly a contender.  Uncle Jacks boasts several locations but the original was founded in the early 1930’s and was titled simply Jack’s.   Their mantra is “Where superior quality and obsessive dedication to craft are the norm”.  With an impressive wine menu and the finest USDA Prime Beef Uncle Jacks is a steakhouse not to be missed.

Trattoria L’incontro Italian is the go too Italian restaurant near LaGuardia airport.  Located only three miles from LGA Trattoria L’incontro is the perfect place to stop in after a long flight, whether you just want to have a nice glass of wine at the wine bar or you are looking for some fine Italian dining.   Hand painted murals and an open brick over lend this establishment an air of tradition and comfort and this feeling is also reflected in their vast and somewhat unique menu.  A variety of brick over pizzas are offered at Trattoria L’inconto as well as some very interesting creations (including a brick oven pizza stuffed with chocolate).  Trattoria also offers the type of cuisine you would expect from a restaurant known for its fine dining dishes such as fried calamari, muscles in white sauce and grilled octopus are some of the more

Best Restaurants Near Penn Station

Best Restaurants Near Penn Station

NYC can be a boisterous and chaotic place filed with all manner of choices and decisions.  Penn station is the veritable transportation Hub of the world, arguably one of the busiest rail stations globally, it sees literally millions of travelers every day and each one of them is usually in a rush.  With everyone flying around and burning up all of those calories one can develop an appetite.  The best way to sate that hunger is to eat and relax, preferably in a quieter place where one can collect their thoughts and enjoy a truly nice meal.  Here are four of the best restaurants only blocks from Penn Station.

The Breslin; The Breslin located at 16 W 29th street is incredibly popular and a bit on the rambunctious side but the swine and meat laden menu compliments the large variety of beers and drinks perfectly.    Their menu also includes a great brunch section.  Try one of their amazing lamb burgers.

Hanjan; Hanjan is Renown Chef Hoonie Kim’s second restaurant and it is touted as one of New York’s best. An amazing and truly authentic Korean restaurant this second establishment firmly cements Hoonie Kim at the pinnacle of modern Korean cuisine in New York.  The menu is designed to promote and encourage drinking being filled with small plate selections, but this is a positive rather then a negative, as the wide variety of dishes and libations allows one to try it all.

John Dory Oyster Bar; A fantastic Mediterranean style oyster bar, John Dory Oyster Bar is located on the other side of Ace’s Hotel at 1196 Broadway at W 29th street. The prices on small plates add up but are by and large worth it.  A huge selection of small seafood plates we recommend trying (obviously the oysters) the sea urchin.

NoMad;  NoMad is Daniel Humm’s more casual incarnation of the famous Eleven Madison Park.  Make no mistake however this restaurant is far from casual dining (Elven Madison is quite possibly one of the most upscale restaurants in Manhattan).  A very expensive menu is well worth it as the food is unbelievable.  The bar here is also amazing (check out the Library room) with over 30 different concoctions all with intricate and flavorful layers designed to delight the palate.

Keens Steakhouse: One of New York’s iconic Steakhouses, Keens is located at 72 W 36th Street and is one of the only USDA Prime-only Steakhouses in the city.  Recently a recipient of The James Beard Foundation 2013 America’s Classics Awards Keens has been open since 1885 and as you can imagine this establishment has an incredible history.  Aside from the historic ambiance their menu is second to none and a prime local for all manor of carnivores.

Le Bernadine: pricy but awesome is a rare acquirer of three Michelin stars as well as The New York Times highest rating of four stars, Le Bernadine was Zagats top pick for 2012.  Located at 155 W 51st St, the menu, the décor and the presentation is incomparable.  Offering primarily French Seafood on their menu there are very few restaurants outside of France itself that can compare. Paris natives Maguy and Gilbert Le Coze founded Le Bernadine in 1972 and it remains at the pinnacle of fine dining to this day.

Benares: Traditional Indian cuisine created by master chef Peter Beck can be found only a short walk north of Time Square at 240 W 56th St, (between Broadway and Eight Ave).  Benares offers a respite from the chaos of NYC and the menu does not disappoint.  Classic Indian fare as well as seafood and amazing vegetarian dishes populate the menu and no matter what your preference Banares will satisfy.

Esca:  Dave Pasternack, Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich offer amazing Southern Italian Seaside cooking (spaghetti with lobster).  Creative and delicious, Esca offers traditional Italian fare combined with creative southern Italian seafood.  Try Sicilian style seafood stew, signature antipasti or the extra fresh grilled fish.  You can find this Italian Jewel at 402 W 43rd St at ninth Ave.

Toloache:  Chef Julian Medina presides over this gorgeous and richly decorated Mexican restaurant situated in the theater district at 251 W 50th Street between Broadway and Eight Ave.  Beautiful murals of Mexican vistas are hung on tiled walls and create an authentic and upscale environment.  Executive chef and owner Julian Medina has been perfecting his craft for over 15 years, you could pretty much close your eyes and point at the menu and not go wrong here.  For traditional Mexican dining do not miss Toloache.

Top 3 Zagat Rated Seafood Restaurants In NYC

Top 3 Zagat Rated Seafood Restaurants In NYC

New York city is a metropolis known for many things, chief amongst them is the vast selection of amazing restaurants.  There are so many great places to eat in NYC it can be almost overwhelming at times and so in the interest of helping out our fellow foodies All Star Limousine would like to introduce Zagats top rated Seafood restaurants in the New York Metropolitan area.

The top rated seafood restaurant, voted by consumers and zagat, is Le Bernardin located at 155 West 51st street NY NY.  Chef Eric Ripert has achieved culinary perfection with this French seafood masterpiece.  The dining room itself has been touted as “drop-dead Gorgeous”, and truly it is.  Personally I have never seen its equal in décor and ambiance.  The food, service and over all experience is “unforgettable” and incomparable.  A little on the high end as far as price is concerned Le Bernardin is not for everyone, but for those with the means it is an absolutely incredible dining experience.

Marea is an Italian seafood restaurant located at 240 Central Park South and is run by chef Michael White.  White demonstrates how a kitchen should be run and the incredible food and service is prepared expeditiously and exquisitely.  Make no mistake however Marea’s fast and efficient service by no means detracts from the food itself, in fact Zagat calls it “sheer perfection”.  Overall an amazing dining experience and you will not have to wait long at all to eat, diner averages about $100 a person.

Aquagrill at 210 Spring Street is a dining experience a little different from the above mentioned.  This “unbeatable raw bar” is said to offer the best shellfish in NYC, and truth be told I have never had fresher fish.  Always packed and for good reason not only is the food, ambiance and service near perfect the price is unbeatable.  Aquagrill has something for everyone at an average of about $60 a head.
