Smart Business

We have all heard the expression work harder not smarter, and while I do agree with this, the reality is that to really succeed you need to work hard and smart.  The world in general is becoming smarter, or at least people are becoming more informed.  With communication technology being what it is today the questions people used to take classes or read books to answer can be readily answered in about 5 minutes with a quick Google search.   People on average know more they are becoming smarter.  So now with a more level playing field what is it that separates one competitor to another?  Good old-fashioned hard work, the desire to be better and the drive to put in the time and effort to make the desire a reality.

For years, and even still, our society has been built around the idea of making things easier, giving people the option to do less and achieve the same result.   A good example is the internet, over the last thirty years online shopping and search engines have allowed people to do what would have formally taken them days or even weeks to accomplish.  Now it can be done in mere moments.

This is not necessarily a bad thing if only you could remove the undeniable tendency of people taking advantage.  Simply said when things are handed to people they stop trying to work for them, and when it comes time to work for something people don’t know how.  This is a problem, life is not easy, and most things that are worth it take hard work.  There is a very negative symptom that is a result of simplifying life, look at the crooked financial sector, people just trying to make money the easiest and quickest way possible, look at the rise in the divorce rate worldwide, people just aren’t willing to work at a relationship anymore, look at the career path of so many individuals today they just bounce from job to job to job with no loyalty or thought at all.

Making things easier is not the answer, to a degree it helps, but ultimately nothing good comes easy.  That is why today working smarter is not enough, everyone can be smart, if you want to get ahead you need to work hard.  This presents a golden opportunity to those of you that have the ability to put your noses to the grindstone and do more then just coast by.

The Perfect Wedding Venue

The Perfect Wedding Venue

Selecting the actual location for your wedding may be the most important choice you make regarding your big day.     The catering hall or venue you choose can make or break your wedding day.  The location sets the tone, it creates the mood and it is what your guests will remember most.  The first question newly weds are asked isn’t who they used for their invitations or who their videographer was its where did you get married.

In an area like Long Island, a place that has so many options, making the right decisions for your wedding day can be daunting.  Make sure, that throughout everything, you keep your priorities straight.  So many people are going to offer their opinions and give their advice make sure you keep what’s important to you top of mind, remember its not about them its about you.  There are many things to consider when selecting your catering hall; food choices, décor, general ambiance, and size are just a few of the things to think about.

Most likely you will have a vision in your mind as to how you want your wedding to look,.  Maybe you want to have pictures surrounded by trees and flowers, maybe you want the backdrop of the majority of your wedding photos to be a magnificent castle or a stately mansion.  The overall look and theme of your wedding is dictated by the wedding hall, you are obviously not going to have a thirties era themed wedding at an ultra modern catering hall.  Aesthetic is very important, as is the maintenance of the structure and the overall quality of the establishment.  Many catering halls skimp on the updates and maintenance and dim the lights when prospective brides and grooms come to their tastings.  Look for chipping paint, stained carpets or water marks on the ceiling, if you can see any of these things during your visit you bet people are going to notice them on your wedding day.

The food is another thing that guests will remember about your wedding, people always remember what they had to eat.  Now, again, you will never please everyone so the important thing to do is get the food that you like (even though the chances of you eating it hot are slim to none).  If your catering hall offers it go to a tasting or a bridal showcase, not only will you get a sense of the quality of the food, you will get a good idea of how the staff operates.

So you have to consider the food and the look of the place as well as some of the specifics of the location but what many people don’t realize is that a good catering hall is far more then just a look and a plate.  The staff of the venue is a big part of your day, it is important that they know their job and they are happy to do it, the last thing you want on your wedding day is some waiter or waitress who is miserable or incompetent, spilling drinks on your guests or giving dirty looks to your bridesmaids.  Like many things the day is in the details, a great catering hall will do more then what is expected they will go above and beyond to make your day unforgettable.  The little things like the bridal attendant who exercises the perfect amount of emotional intelligence, who knows when she is needed and wanted and when she is not, the bus boy who somehow always keeps the water glasses filled yet manages to never get in anyone’s way.   The finishing touches in the bridal suite, the expertly manicured gardens, the special last minute accommodations for your elderly guests.  These are the things that you will talk about and remember for years to come.

Those are some of the things to take into consideration when selecting the perfect venue.  Do your homework, talk to people and make sure to visit the location multiple times.  Read reviews and try to talk to people who have gotten married there previously.  The food the décor and the details are what matters.  Making the right decision when it comes to your venue may be the most important choice you make for your big day.

What The Google Car Means For The Executive Car Service Industry

Posted On: March 10, 2015

What The Google Car Means For The Executive Car Service Industry

The Google car has the auto industry shaking in their boots, but what does it mean for the executive car service industry.  It a word it means change.   The implications of a driverless vehicle are numerous; for the sake of argument let us assume that such a thing becomes a huge success.  After all why would it not?   We spend tens of thousands of dollars on vehicles that immediately depreciate in value directly after purchase and are veritable mobile money pits.  We pay for insurance; we pay for gas, for repairs and not to mention for the car itself.  What if 90% of these costs could be eliminated?  What if 90% of traffic accidents could be eliminated?

Many would take one look at the auto industry and say too big to fail, but think of this, we rode horses for thousands of years, there was a tremendous industry built around the horse and carriage.  All this was changed in a matter of decades, now people ride horse for fun not for travel.  The automobile has only been around about 100 years, with the advances made in communication technology the transportation industry could theoretically change in less then ten years.

The auto industry could be in big trouble, especially with a monster like Google backing the project, but what about the executive car industry?  For us it would no doubt necessitate a big change, but it could be a change for the better.  Inventory and the cost of doing business would decrease and the client pool would only increase as less and less people would be buying cars and many more would just be renting them.  It could be that the future of the executive car industry is massive parking lots of automated vehicles and cell phone driven booking aps.  You would order a car and it would be there to pick you up in less time then it would take to warm up a more traditional vehicle.   With the right manufacture these vehicles could still be luxurious and classy and with the right infrastructure and leadership the company could still guarantee an exceptional service.

What about the luxury and service that is offered by a chauffeur?  The human element is not easily replaced by automation, and often times it is the driver that adds those memorable finishing touches when it comes ground transportation.   Perhaps a company that offered different levels of service, one that could offer a black car service as well as an executive car service.

The future is approaching fast and it looks like it might be riding in a Google car.  The automotive industry is in trouble it just may be too soon for the giants to realize what is just over the horizon.  Big changes are coming in the transportation industry, for a company like All Star Limousine the changes could very well be a huge positive, a chance to innovate and flourish.

Theme Weddings The Good The Bad And The Awful

Posted On: March 05, 2015

Theme Weddings The Good The Bad And The Awful

Strangely prevalent and sometimes awful is the themed wedding.  The undead, clowns, animals and aliens, are all almost immediate passes (if you think otherwise a quick Google images search will prove my point).  Potentially ok are Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings or medieval themed weddings and video game or movie related weddings, you are very much walking the line with these themes as they can be somewhat charming or horribly cheesy.  Subtle themed weddings are better, themes based on places or ideas or historical times, usually integrated in such a way as to be clever and not blatantly obvious.   Stay away from everyone dressing up in costume as it takes away from the glamour and elegance that is an expected part of a wedding.  Themed costumes should incorporate one or two elements of the theme.  If full costume is a must, you have no choice but to go all out and everyone needs to participate, in a situation like this the right costume rental will often cost more then renting a tux.

The reason some of these are total failures and others somehow manage to be pulled off and look cool, even to those that aren’t into the particular idea or genre, comes down to three basic things; relevance, money and aesthetic.  As we stated above if you are going to do full costumes the whole thing needs to be done 150%, everyone needs to spend a good amount of money on their attire and throw the subtle idea out the window as the theme needs to be in everything.  As the day goes on your guests should be thinking “Wow that was so cool the way they decided to do that”.

Relevance is another key factor, basing your wedding theme around a little know video game that you and your bride play that most people have never heard of is going to be completely lost on your guests.  If you have a theme wedding based around a timeless classic or something that has been popular for decades, even people who have never seen the movie or played the game, they will still have heard of it.  To do something that most of your guests will not understand will equate to a total fail and will look like nothing more then everyone deviating from a centuries old tradition to have Halloween early.

The aesthetic is of tremendous importance.  If everything looks terrible or sloppily done, then that will be what everyone remembers about your wedding!  A wedding is supposed to be a beautiful thing, this is in part why gory undead or vampire themed weddings fail no matter how elaborate the costumes.  It just perverts a very pure and traditionally sacred thing.  If you do a themed wedding it is important to keep everything looking good, and if things aren’t necessarily going to be beautiful they better look really really cool.

Ultimately themed weddings are very much hit or miss, and more often then not they are a miss.  If you do decide to have a themed wedding keep in mind what can make them great and what makes them total failures, relevance, overall aesthetic, and the amount of money and effort that actually goes in to it.   It doesn’t hurt to do your research either and see what others have done and what the end result was.  Good luck!
