What is a Modern Wedding?

A modern wedding is chic, stylish and often implements the latest technologies in an effort to create a new spin on traditional ideas.  There are plenty of modern ideas available to bring your wedding up to date and fun using technology, ideas from Pinterest and other social media platforms, and a myriad of tips an tricks from some of the industries most cutting edge vendors and service providers.

How to kick off my Modern Wedding

A modern wedding should start off with transportation; Party buses are a big hit when it comes to transporting your bridal party to and from the ceremony and the reception. The Party bus is a great way to relax and take some time to clear your mind before you have to get on the clock.  It gives you the opportunity to spend time with your friends and family, laughing and having a good time before the nerves of your big day start to set in. With a larger bridal party sometimes a bus is the only way to go.  Some people however don’t like the look of buses in their wedding photos, no problem, stretched SUV’s can seat anywhere from 14-18 passengers, more than enough for the average bridal party.

Photography

Living in this day and age we are lucky to have so many cool gizmos and gadgets at our fingertips, most photographers have the ability to take the art of photography to the next level and to do things that were not even being thought of 10 years ago. The advent of the drone makes taking cinema quality aerial photos of the wedding possible and can paint your wedding day in an entirely different perspective. Certain photo editing techniques can be done after the wedding day to create quirky and fun imagery.  Examples such as the Star Wars themed picture of the bride and groom or photo shopping a giant dinosaur in the background with the bridal party running and screaming in fear.   For a studio that is always on the edge check out Silver Fox Videography.

Modern Venues

Many modern day wedding trends involve themes such as "A Day at the Beach", or "A Winter Wonderland". Themes are a great way to stay cost effective and still have a cool and cohesive look. If you are doing a beach theme instead of having flowers as a centerpiece, try decorating the tables with shells and vases filled with sand and tall beach grass. Some of the more popular modern venues in the Long Island area are The Crescent Beach Club, The Harbor Club at Prime, and the Inn at New Hyde Park.

Traditional Weddings

Traditional Weddings

What is a Traditional Wedding?

Weddings, traditionally, are very formal and elegant affairs. Typically the event is black tie, everyone is dressed in his or her best, and the location, food and decor are top shelf. Traditionally it would not be a DJ spinning records and providing the music, instead however; the sound of a big band would fill the room along with possibly a string orchestra for subtle background music most typically while your guests are dining.

Where would I have a Traditional Wedding?

The venue site should be elegant, with a dramatic yet glamorous feel to it. A venue with high ceilings and lots of marble and granite adds to the grand feel of the venue, some venues around New York to check out are Russo’s on the Bay, The Inn at New Hyde Park, The Venetian in Garfield New Jersey, or of course the legendary Oheka Castle.

What are some ideas for having a Traditional Wedding?

Invitations are your guest’s first glimpse of your elegant affair, and are the first official piece of the puzzle that gives them a taste of what’s to come. Invitations should be done tastefully, with white or ivory paper and black ink, written in the art of calligraphy.  This is the most traditional form of invitation it being both elegant and artistic this method still holds up today, and will more than likely impress everyone that you invite to your special day.

For you and your significant other to get into the celebratory mood, a night out should be planned in order to fully admire your impending union evening. Dressing your best, and going out to a renowned establishment for drinks, only ordering cocktails such as martinis, gimlets, and cosmopolitans to fully understand the stem of traditional elegance.  This is done in order to observe and celebrate your upcoming marriage as traditionally during the day of imbibing too many cocktails is frowned upon and can potentially ruin the day.

You want to have a traditional wedding with a big band and string orchestra but you have no idea how to dance? No problem! You can go to almost any local dance studio for some pointers on how to Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing, and maybe even Pasodoble. In just six sessions you can learn the moves for about 3 ballroom style dances and completely shock everyone at the venue.

Is there anything else needed for a Traditional Style Wedding?

Well of course when the night comes to an end you are going to have to get to your next destination somehow, to finish off the night one should acquire a chauffeur driven antique Rolls Royce or another antique of equal status or relevance, these vehicles are ideal for the traditional look you and your spouse have established for your traditional wedding. Nothing impresses more than a handsome car picking up the newlyweds to drive them away from their friends and family to start a new chapter in their lives together.

Choosing The Right Venue

Choosing The Right Venue

Choosing the right venue for your wedding is perhaps the biggest decision you will have to make when planning your big day. The question you will get asked the most about your wedding day is where did you get married. This is the place where you will celebrate your recent union, it sets the tone and creates the atmosphere and it is what your guests will talk about for years to come.

When deciding where to get married there are a lot of options, especially in an area like Long Island.  There are several things to take into consideration when selecting your venue; the most important are style or look, budget, food and availability.

The look of a catering hall is paramount; your catering hall will decide the theme and set the tone for your wedding.  You can go for the ultra modern look, clean lines and recently renovated, an example would be the Harbor Club at Prime, you can go for the Tuscan look, lots of beautiful marble and stone, such as Russo’s on The Bay, or you can opt for the traditional mansion type look found in places like The Westbury Manor.  No matter what you decide there is no wrong choice, every option possesses its own unique charm.

The food is next and many consider this to be one of the most important decisions that need to be made for your wedding day (even though 90% of the time the bride and groom never get to eat).  The truth is most reputable catering halls will have good food.  Places that are renowned for the food are The Harbor Club at Prime which allows you to order your diner off a menu restaurant style and the afore mentioned Russo’s on The Bay which has a venetian hour that is unlike anything you have ever seen.

Other things that will factor into your choice of venue are service, price, location and exclusivity.  Service is important as the people working for the catering hall are those that will be servicing you and your wedding guests on your special day, the competency and professionalism of the service will make or break your day.  Price and location are also, of course, a factor, you want the venue close enough to where you and the majority of your guests will be staying or one that is close to home.  Cost is an obvious consideration; the catering hall can be the most expensive item on your wedding day list, make sure you stay within budget.  Exclusivity, many catering halls allow more then one bride to get married per day, some only do one wedding at a time it is important to ask your self whether this is important to you or not.

Choosing the right venue for your wedding is perhaps the biggest decision that will need to be made for your big day.  Make sure to factor in style, location, and cost to your decision making process.  Make sure the food is to your liking and make sure the location suits your needs.  There is no wrong choice here, just make sure you take the time to weigh all your options.  Good luck!

1)    The Rise of the Jack-O-Lanterns

The Rise of the Jack-O-Lanterns is a seasonal event that takes place at

The Old Westbury Gardens, here you can see up to 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins created by various artists and sculptors to replicate animals, dinosaurs, and monsters. The pumpkin art that these professionals create is breathtaking and is sure to amaze anyone that joins you on this 1/3 mile walking tour.

2)    New York’s Hudson Valley

New York’s very own Hudson Valley is the beginning of a 150 mile region that starts just over the tip of the Island of Manhattan; it’s a beautiful place to plan a day trip with your family. The Hudson Valley showcases some of the country’s most beautiful foliage this time of year and is home to over 100 pick your own apple orchards which are a fun and delicious way for the family to enjoy a great fall weekend together.

3)    Long Island Vineyards

Although you can make it out to the Vineyards on Long Island any time of the year, there’s something special about going out east during the crisp fall weather. This can make for a great and unforgettable wine tasting with friends and family no matter what type of wine you choose to indulge in. Booking a wine tour is quick and easy and can be done within a few minutes and with minimal effort. For a time out with great company, good conversation and a tasteful choice of wine you should really consider booking a car out to Castello di Borghese vineyard, Vineyard 48, Raphael’s Vineyard, or Pindar Vineyard, these are just a few to choose from.

4)    Best Haunted Houses

Although not for everyone, some people like to spend their October with a bit of excitement. New York is home to plenty of haunted house attractions that can vary based on fright appeal. The number 1 haunted House in New York is The Headless Horseman Haunted House and Hayride located in Ulster Park. This attraction is ranked in the top 10 best Haunted Houses across the United States and is sure to leave anyone that participates a little spooked. If you are not one who enjoys being scared or if little ones are present try an attraction like The Gravesend Inn Haunted Hotel attraction in downtown Brooklyn which is rated for anyone 6 years and up.

5)    Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an iconic Fall tradition which is broadcasted all over the country featuring giant floats, balloons as well as performances of high schools and celebrities every year. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kick starts the holiday season every year with people coming from near and far to witness this annual celebration, basking and reveling in the light of the upcoming holiday season. If it’s your first time attending the parade some tips are to dress extremely warm, watching the parade for hours will leave you cold with not many places to go for warmth, you can always remove layers if you are too hot. Make sure you use a restroom before hand, once you get in that crowd it is very difficult to find one and will ultimately result in you potentially getting separated from your group. Keep all cellphones and cameras fully charged to take plenty of pictures as well as to locate your party if you do find yourself separated.
